The Artisan Bakehouse is set in a rural idyll in sleepy West Sussex.
This award winning cookery school destination and eating experience offers the best of local, seasonal foods, and teaches artisan baking to the highest standard. The traditional wood oven adds to a great experience in a relaxed, friendly, professional setting. Owners Louise and baker Les are totally passionate about real bread and want to share that with you.
Whether you are a complete beginner or a regular bread maker, they offer workshops throughout the year to help you hone your baking skills and knowledge with a group of like-minded people. Many of the breads are baked in their traditional wood oven giving the opportunity to work with a baker’s peel. The courses are however aimed at baking in the home. You will therefore be able to take the recipes and techniques back home to enjoy as well as the delicious breads you have made!

All Artisan Bakehouse workshops are informal, relaxed, informative. Limited to 6-8 people ensuring everyone gets the individual attention they need. Owners Louise and Les are proud to have internationally renowned baker & author, Emmanuel Hadjiandreou as part of their team, he heads up their sourdough classes among other workshops.
They can also provide tailor made workshops for small private groups and also host fun pizza or bread making parties for groups of up to 10.
Stockists of Shipton Mills’ organic flour is used in all their baking.
Courses are held in their Bakehouse with its traditional wood burning oven you can have a truly hands on experience making various breads from around the world and learning new skills that will enable you to make fresh, great tasting bread whenever you like.
The overall Experience at The Artisan Bakehouse is relaxed and friendly. They also open their fully licensed Bakehouse to the general public on a pop up basis periodically throughout the year serving their delicious homemade lunches and afternoon teas. All the bread, cakes and scones they serve are handmade on the premises cooked in their traditional hand crafted wood burning oven or trusty cottage AGA.
Passionate about what they serve with their bread and scones, using seasonal produce from the garden where possible or from local suppliers. Proud supporters of some wonderful Sussex food and drink providers and they serve delicious Sussex cheeses, meats, ciders, craft beers and wines for you to enjoy with your meal.
In the warmer months you can soak up the sun in their pretty cottages gardens or enjoy time in the shade of their trees.
