Once a pub, this historic building has been lovingly transformed into The Abinger Cookery School. Owned and operated by a family led team of dedicated food-loving enthusiasts and professionally qualified chef tutors. The school offers a personal approach to cookery lessons. Teaching is in small groups, allowing time to get to know your tutors and the subjects, assisting you throughout in improving your cooking skills.
From baking to fine dining and private catering, their team is knowledgeable about food and has experience cooking in a broad range of settings.
Abinger Cookery School Courses range from one day, two-day, evening and weekend courses along with their popular 5-day chalet cooks and Gold Duke of Edinburgh ‘DofE’ courses . Alongside these they are one of the leading providers of ‘Weber Grill Academy’ BBQ courses. Accommodation is provided for students on their 5 day Chalet Cooks Course and Gold ‘DofE’ Courses. Abinger Cookery School has been awarded the ICSA Accreditation ‘Centre Of Excellence’ from the Independent Cookery School Association “ICSA”.
During a recent assessment, the team at Abinger Cookery School were awarded our highest mark following assessments of their outdoor and indoor cookery classes on the day. Due to their consistently high marks during the 4 hour assessment, they achieved ‘Centre of Excellence’ for their overall teaching standards, and were highlighted for their exceptional Out Door Cookery Skills and facilities by our assessor.
“…Cookery classes are delivered in a bespoke kitchen environment which is maintained to high standards. The school premises is well located and full of character, presenting a ‘happy ship environment’.
Students are given extensive detail on course content, requirements, expectations of them as students and what they can expect from the school. Welcome briefings are detailed and include safety information including fire procedures and safe kitchen practices. Classes are well structured.
ICSA accreditation is only awarded if consistency is achieved, recognising the establishment as a ‘Greatest British Cookery School Collection’ institutions. MEET CHEF TUTOR JAKE PINN
What made you want to become a chef?
I fell into it. I went to art college and did general art and design and then went into photography. After that I went travelling and when I got home, I started working in a restaurant with my twin brother and never looked back.
Tell us a little bit about your career journey to becoming a chef tutor.
I worked on a luxury private yacht and was lucky enough to travel around the Caribbean cooking for all on board for 4 months. I was honoured to cook for HRH Prince Edward for Surrey Day in 2021 when the cookery school I work at was invited to attend an event at our local farm shop.
