Leeds Cookery School achieves national award for quality teaching  and cookery facilities.

A Yorkshire-based cookery school has been awarded the prestigious kitemark of quality and accreditation from leading regulatory body, the Independent Cookery School Association (ICSA).

Leeds Cookery School, located in a converted Fire Station on the outskirts of Leeds city centre, now with a state-of-the-art kitchen, runs a wide range of bespoke cookery courses to train novice cooks and aspiring chefs in a broad range of cookery skills and world cuisines.

ICSA-accredited schools undergo rigorous assessments to ensure consistent delivery of excellence in cookery skills and training, as well as other criteria such as adhering to strict standards of environmental sustainability and continued support for British farmers and seasonal produce.

Accreditation from a recognised industry body such as ICSA is also vital for aspiring chefs to be able to further their professional careers within the hospitality industry and other related culinary professions.

James Day, Director of Operations at ICSA, said: “We are so pleased to have awarded Leeds Cookery School team with the ICSA quality mark assurance and status accreditation. It’s a mark of trust and quality which gives people complete assurance that the cookery school is operating to the highest standards of training.

Continuing, “I was personally very impressed with their ethos and facilities. Additionally, as a registered charity themselves, supporting ‘Zest’ who in turn support people living in disadvantaged areas of Leeds, addressing health inequalities and social isolation through activities which improve physical, mental, social and emotional wellbeing, we will be assisting Leeds Cookery School in raising awareness of these essential skills where we can.”

Simon Chappelow, Leeds Cookery School Manager and Food Projects Manager at Zest, said “As a cookery school with a conscience we are so thrilled to receive such a prestigious accolade alongside other well-known cookery schools across the country. The ICSA accreditation is a welcome head nod to everyone in our business who has supported us through turbulent times.”

Leeds Cookery School also boasts on on-site community kitchen, allotments growing fresh herbs and seasonal veg, and even a car charger points for guests. Simon and his team at ‘Zest’ also teach and inspire the local community in nutritional cooking on a budget.

As well as being sustainable, seasonable and regionally sourced where possible, ICSA-accredited cookery schools aim to teach zero waste principles in foods and packaging, as well as championing chefs and schools who work to the highest standards
